Home Design Trends of Today are Both Modern & Timeless.
What stands out on today’s neighborhood streets? New construction homes and renovated homes we are seeing today have notable accents that stand out from the rest. Is this here to stay? It appears so.
So do we keep up with this when building a new home, renovating and updating homes? Yes! These homes when you eventually sell them are the ones flying off the market for top dollar. So let’s break down further what’s hot in the market!
Here are the top architectural designs of today’s market:
Georgian - the timeless, elegant Greek and Roman design of homes of yesterday and today. Often made of brick or stone, side gabled or hipped roof, the style is highly variable, but noted by symmetry of many small windows, and a classical look.
Mid Century Modern - popular with pre - fabricated homes are post era WWII era 50’s / 60’s homes with flat panes and bold geometric shapes. There is an abundance of windows and functionality is priority over decoration.
Scandinavian - Like Mid Century Modern, but with pointed roofs unlike flat roofs of mid century. There are a lot of windows and they look like a contemporary cabin.
Tudor - storybook style, brick, stone, wood paneling, dark and light panels, with pitched roofs. Tudors have timeless charm.
Cape Cod - shingle siding, gable dormers, symmetrical exteriors, centered front doorways, and big long porches.
Modern Rustic - craftsman wood and stone, clean lines, minimal decor, the rustic cabin / lodge appeal.
Contemporary - 3D print construction, clean, smooth geometric shapes, large windows, wood / metal / concrete materials, and neutral colors.
Pre-fab Tiny Homes - these tiny homes boomed in the pandemic; can vary in architectural design and fall under 500 square feet. They can be built on a permanent foundation or a mobile platform. The movement was architectural and social advocating for simplifying life, living with less, and easy ability to live off the grid.
A modern roofing trend on any of the above mentioned architectural designs is:
Metal Roofs - a very durable, long lasting roof (40-70 year life span), energy efficient, and curb appeal are the selling features of this roof.
Inside the updated, modern homes of today you will find the design trends leaning to the following:
Old World Craftsmanship - think hand carved wood working, elegance.
Patterned Harwood - used in totality of flooring or just a partial part, such as herringbone or diamonds. Lighter tones are more often being put in currently.
Colorful Kitchens - they’re making a comeback with unpainted, natural stained wood cupboards, granite countertops, hardwood islands, stone, and texture.
Black Accents - you’ll find many homes with black windows (affecting outdoor curb appeal with a bold and sharp appearance), doors, molding and frames, even appliances.
Biophilic Design - bringing nature indoors with organic materials throughout a home, plenty of natural light, and plants.
Maximalism Design - creative expression boomed in the pandemic where people were stuck at home and wanted their environment to bring a feel of their travel desires. These dream home designs are now a popular movement bringing the vacation home into the primary home by means of antique furniture, art, decorative rugs, paint colors to match that destination culture, and wallpaper accents.
Curves - arched doorways and windows, vaulted ceilings with curved beams, and soft edged furniture. Outside the curves are being utilized in walkways, arches over patios and deck design.
As you can see, there is much to choose from to stay on trend both with the old timeless classic designs of yesterday blended with the fresh, modern looks of today. It’s obvious we will never fully leave behind the class of historical design, however we’re here for the modern updates that give a beautiful, clean, and notable appearance from a distance.
