The weather has finally broke and we’re going to count on it staying this way ;)

Livingston County is a great area to live in with easy access to outdoor boutique shopping, outdoor malls, great restaurants, beaches, parks, and more.  So what’s here for those that just moved here or are thinking of moving to this lovely Michigan area? And what are some quick day trips for a beautiful Spring or Summer day? In the Mulvihill Group, some of us are Livingston County born and raised and Dan raised his family here for over 40 years now.  We are well versed in this area and can easily answer any questions about it!

Some of the downtown city areas in Livingston County are quaint with old charm, yet with a modern feel where you can walk around the downtown to do some boutique shopping and enjoy fine dining.  You can find this especially in Brighton and Howell of Livingston County.  A close drive from Livingston County, but a similar downtown charm feel can be found in Milford of Oakland County and Fenton of Genesee County.

There are public beaches, state and metro parks in our area as well.  Bishop Recreational Park in Brighton has a beach and an inflatable bounce house in the middle of the lake for kids. The trails are fantastic for hiking and mountain biking, and there are campsites with cabins as well.  Woodland Lake in Brighton has a small lot with a public boat launch off of Hilton Road.  Howell has a beautiful park and beach on Thompson Lake which also has a public boat launch.  Kensington Metro Park in Milford is quite large with many trails, park spots with bbq’s to use, a  golf course, and a beach.  Island Lake State Park is a really nice State Park with three beach sites on three different lakes each with their own unique setting, and plenty of road and dirt trails for biking and hiking.  Howell Nature Center is home of rescue animals where you can rent cabins for parties and attend Summer Camp, a play park, zip lines, a high ropes activity area in the tree tops, and more.  There are also bike trails in Howell that lead to Pinckney all the way as far as Zukey Lake Tavern that is a Pinckney favorite restaurant and bar on Zukey Lake.  The Pinckney Dexter area is home to a chain of 7 gorgeous lakes all connected for endless boating and fun.  That area provides an up north feel to it.  Fenton in Geneses Country is just a 30 - 45 minute drive from most areas of Livingston County, also has more than one public beach and great restaurants.  Clover Beach on Byrum Lake in Linden is nice, and Silver Lake Park in Fenton is public and has a public boat launch as well.  As you can see there is a lot of places to go in the area to have a ton of fun in nature in the Summer months!

Some fun day trips from our area in the warm weather that you could do in approximately 2 hours or less of a drive would be to Frankenmuth, Detroit Zoo, Potter Park Zoo in Lansing, Toledo Zoo,  Canterbury Village in Orion Twp., Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Huckleberry Railroad near Flint, Michigan Adventure in Muskegon, and the Holland / Grand Rapids area to hit up Lake Michigan or have some fun city life.  Ann Arbor which is just a half hour away also has an urban artsy feel to the city for plenty of walking, shopping, comedy shows, and dining fun.

If you’re new to Michigan all together you also must take the 3 plus hour drive to vacation in Northern Michigan where the beaches have turquoise waters, massive forests, and ski resorts. Between Northern Michigan and the UP, Mackinaw Bridge is a notable site with gorgeous views as you drive over of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.  Mackinaw Island can be visited by Ferry and you will find an old world experience with battle preserved sites, and travel by horse or bike as there are no cars.  The ride around the island is 8 miles and gorgeous.  It is a fun adventure where you can also take a staircase up and look out over the water.  In The UP it is like another whole world of Michigan with Lake of the Clouds tucked in the Porcupine Mountains, Pictured Rocks where you can go kayaking and cliff diving into the water, and more cites to see. As you drive around the upper peninsula of Michigan you can stumble upon small caves and waterfalls as well!  It really is an amazing area and worth the trip if you move to Michigan.

Livingston County is a fabulous area to live in if you want plenty to do with small town charm, have access to nature and water, and enjoy a little road trip to some of Michigan’s best attractions!  The Mulvihill Group is Michigan and Livingston County proud!  We’d love to show you around too and have some fun!  Contact us if you are moving here so we can advise you on which area would best fit your needs!
